I really liked how Hickman tied up some loose threads in Fury’s backstory. It was stated back in issue #27 of Sgt. Fury that he was going to lose his eyesight in his left eye, but how he lost the eye was never stated.
do you know why nick fury wears and eye patch? i've always wondered.
AnonymousDuring WWII, Fury was hit with some shrapnel during a mission and refused to get the surgery that would completely save the eye because it would have put him out of commission for a year. (Sgt. Fury #12- http://agentfury.tumblr.com/post/854733379/origin-of-the-eye-patch) He eventually lost the eyesight in that eye and started wearing the patch. One version (probably what would be considered canon now) has him losing the rest of his eyesight there when his brother Jake tried to shoot him at point blank range and just missed when Fury jerked his head to the side.
